WHY?

I have never liked the following:

Why do companies need to tell us this?!?! Are we really that foolish?

A lot if times I think, "Hmmm, Extra has changed their packaging. I bet they have changed the flavor of their gum too. It probably tastes like Indian food. I better go with the Orbit this week."

This is almost as bad as hearing radio stations tell us that we can listen "At work, at home, or in the car". Where else do I listen to the radio? Where else would I possibly be that a radio would make my day more enjoyable?

Sorry, I am all worked up today. I don't know why.

House Cleaning

With the arrival of a new puppy, we are questioning all that we hold dear. Not really, it's not that serious. Katie did confess that she wants to take a sick day the first day that we have the dog though. I thought it seemed pretty crazy, but thats how its gonna be.

So, on to the subject, we are trying to sell our existing couch and coffee table. If you know of anyone who needs a couch and/or coffee table, send them our way. I'll post a few pic's later today.

Also, I've added "Latest Movie" and "Currently Reading" so you can see what we're up to. FYI, Katie is the one reading "The Choice". And just because I am reading "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Labs" doesn't necessarily make me a complete idiot. I've never liked books like these, because you're paying to be considered an idiot.

Oh sir, the Giants of New York took on the Packers of Green Bay. And in the end, the Giants triumphed by kicking an oblong ball made of pigskin through a big "H". It was a most ripping victory.

Sweet Maybel

So, I'm just too excited about getting our new puppy that I couldn't wait to post til we got her and I like details so I figured others would too. Justin did let you know that we are getting her (and decided that her middle name would be Edna before discussing it with me, so we'll let you know if that is official later on), but he left out all the fun stuff.

First, I have to say that we thought long and hard about getting Maybel and I think it was a very big step in this thing we call marriage. Of course it's not the biggest decision we'll ever make, but it was good practice and I have to say I'm pretty proud of us :)

So, we found a breeder on-line and I checked her out. She had two new litters and is just outside of Nashville so we headed out to check it out on Sunday. Of course we (or at least I) fell in love immediately once we saw all those cute puppies! They didn't even have their eyes open yet! Once we saw Maybel's mother, we new we wanted one of her pups - she is a very pretty American Labrador. Well, once you see the picture of her and the pups, you'll see that they don't last long b/c lots of people want one. We went home and slept on it and decided on Monday to take the plunge into puppyhood. Needless to say, we are so excited and can't wait til she's ready to come home. The breeder says she'll be ready on October 27th and I'm counting the days already.

And in case you're wondering, "Where did they get the name Maybel???" Well, we've been talking about getting a dog since before we were married. And when we were engaged, of course the only thing we could think or talk about was May 5th - so in keeping with fashion, when discussing dog names, it was only natural that it had something to do with our wedding date/time period...and so we came up with Maybel - May, obviously and -bel b/c it fit and it's kind of like bells for 'wedding bells'. Pretty silly I know, but it stuck and we couldn't come up with a name we liked better, and believe me, we tried!

So here is the first pciture of Maybel and her 11 brothers and sisters (and their mother) - can you imagine carrying that many babies! Yeah Right!

We don't know which one she is yet, but she's in there somewhere! How cute is that?!

Chili's and Bocce

This past weekend was pretty spectacular. So spectacular, that the word "spectacular" can't even describe it. So, I am forced to make one up, right now. Scrumtrulescent. This weekend was Scrumtrulescent.

So, Friday we had dinner With Julia, and Landon called as he was just landing at the airport, and he joined as well. A good time was had by all. Even our waitress at Chili's had a good time. She told me! Then, Katie and I were asleep by 8:30 or something ridiculous like that. We can be elderly when we want to be.

Saturday I played golf in the morning for Dell's JDRF scramble. We didn't win the whole thing, but we did win a gift card to Jim & Nicks, which is acceptable. That evening we had a picnic in Centennial Park with the Nunley's, followed by a heated game of Bocce. We were doing some pretty daring things (on grass, in the sand, next to tree trunks, etc.) It was a well fought battle, but the Nunley's prevailed 20-16. But they DO own the game, so we were starting at a disadvantage. Then we came back to our place for the Alabama-Arkansas game, cause Adam is a 'Bama fan.

To update you on the puppy, its official. Maybel Edna Lipscomb, a Yellow lab, will be a part of our family. We should be able to pick her up in 5 weeks, and we'll definitely be putting up pictures as we get them.

Two posts, one day, zero excuses

So, we had a bit of a scare last week. Now that it's all ok, just wanted to update everyone.

DT (Dennis, Katie's dad) went to the hospital on Tuesday with some chest pains, and through some tests and a few days being in the hospital, they found some blockage is some arteries. So, they put in a stint in one artery, and DT went home Thursday.

So it wasn't a heart attack, but it definitely was a wake-up call. But its a good thing, because we want the big guy around. And Dubs, the family's slightly overweight beagle will be getting more walks, so its good things all around. We love you DT!

On a lighter note, I love the new Domino's Pizza commercials with the Oreo mustache/goatee/beard. If you haven't see it, its hilarious.

Speaking of mustaches, I found this site today. Guess what i'm doing in March?

How nice, but that's no reason for you to fall out of the basket again!

Finally...from yours truly

Well, Justin has bugged me enough and I am finally making my first ever blog. I've just been reading some other's blogs and felt inspired to make my very own post.

So...I don't really know what I'm suppossed to talk about, but I figured I would give everyone a more detailed update of what's been going on in the life of the Lipscombs. As Justin said earlier, I am well into my first year as a school counselor. At this point, I have mixed emotions, usually on a daily basis. I really do enjoy what I do, but it is definitely a learning process. This is my first "big girl" job as I like to call it and I am having a hard time getting used to this whole 8-4 thing. I know some of you are probably rolling your eyes right now and thinking I'm crazy since I have a school schedule, but trust me, it's hard getting up so early every morning and all I want to do at the end of the day is lay on the couch and watch that day's episode of General Hospital that I've DVR'd (yes, I record a soap opera and I'm not ashamed - and Justin is even getting in to it a little bit :) ) Anyway, I pretty much feel tired all the time. And even though I can't find a pillow that's perfect, I don't have any trouble going to sleep at night, that's for sure!
Aside from my constant tiredness, I go back and forth. Some days I'm totally confident and feel like I totally know what I'm doing and then other days I wonder if I'm really cut out for this. But I keep going and just do the best I can because that's what mom and dad always taught me to do. I'm pretty sure (or at least semi-convinced) that these are all normal thoughts and feelings when starting a new profession and I'll keep on trucking (mainly because Justin isn't too keen on the idea of me being a housewife permanently). Oh, and in case you didn't know, I'm at two different schools this year, a part-time counselor at each, making a full-time position (and paycheck!). Here are pictures of the two schools I'm at...

Kenrose Elementary School

Scales Elementary (kind of small in this pic, but it's an older school and sits up on this big hill)

If I'm not working, I'm either running errands, lounging at home with Justin (usually putting off cleaning :) ) or catching up with friends. We officially placed membership at Otter Creek and are quickly getting involved. We really enjoy our lifegroup with several other young married couples and are also working with the 5th and 6th graders. Oh, and Justin has been very sweet about letting me spend quite a bit of attention (and $$) on sprucing up our apartment! It's finally starting to look like a more grown-up home and I especially love that it is OUR home now! And since I haven't ever blogged, much less since I've been married, I have to say here that I LOVE being married and I have the best husband EVER! As you've already read, we have a new couch and chair on the way. Once we get them and have other things all set up, I'll take pics so everyone can see.

I guess I'll wrap this up since Justin is telling me this is the longest post ever (he likes to exagerate a little bit). In case you are getting bored with our posts (I know that would be hard to do though ;) ), we have been talking about adding an addition to our family sooner rather than later...a puppy of course! So hopefully soon we'll have cute puppy pictures to be posting for all of you to see. And, in keeping with my husband's tradition of movie quotes (which really I love to, even if I don't always know them), I'll leave you with one of our favorites:

"The question isn't what are we going to do, the question is what aren't we going to do."

Pillows

So, Katie has been trying to get a new pillow since we got married. My wife is picky about a few things, and pillows are definitley up there on the list. We've been to Bed, Bath and Beyond, Macy's, Dillards, Macy's again, and we have returned them all so far.

We just got one from Macy's, and we had such high hopes. But alas, it will be returned as well. 7 pillows, and not an end in sight. I am holding out to at least get to double digits, because....well, its double digits.

I am staying home today (sick) to play Mr. Mom. I'm kinda glad we don't have children yet, because I'm not ready to be a father yet...or a mother for that matter.

Movie Quote:
I understand that you little guys start out with your woobies and you think they're great... and they are, they are terrific. But pretty soon, a woobie isn't enough. You're out on the street trying to score an electric blanket, or maybe a quilt. And the next thing you know, you're strung out on bedspreads Ken. That's serious.
