Our first weekend with Maybel

Whew, it's been a long weekend. Here's the skinny:
We got her home about 6:30 on Friday. She slept almost the whole way home, and as soon as we got here, she made toilet out front in the grass. Already so smart. We brought her in, and she just laid around. She didn't eat anything, but she drinks water every 15 minutes or so. More on that later.

We got a surprising amount of sleep Friday night. She got sick once in her crate, so we took her out and went outside. After that, she stayed in the crate until morning. She wolfed down breakfast and we just payed with her all day until her check-up with Dr. Malone. Everything was fine, all the technicians loved her and thought she was a Cottonelle puppy.

We came back, and hung out in the living room for the rest of the night. That's pretty much all we've all weekend.

She's been doing pretty good in the crate. She still whines for a little bit, but eventually calms down and goes to sleep.

So far, the funniest thing are:
- Her bark sounds like a raspy little scream.
- She drinks water ALL the time. She'll wake up from a dead sleep and go get a few sips, and come back and lay down.
- She liked to watch the Dog Whisperer, she perks up with the barking dogs.

So, she's great! This was kind of a ramble, but i'm a little tired. We've been up early and a few times during the nights. I'm adding pics from Moriah's camera to the Picasa page.

We're sending this one into LL Bean.

Here's Maybel!!!!

The wait is over!!! Maybel is possibly the cutest puppy ever (of course I'm a little biased).

We got to the breeder's around 5:30 and it took us about 15 minutes to choose Maybel out of the two that were left. Personally, I think I knew she was the one right when I saw them. We got some information and signed on the dotted line! She even went to the bathroom in the grass before we got in the car. Right now, I'm thinking this is a little too good to be true, but she is just so sweet. She did great the whole way home, just slept in our laps. We got home and carried her up the steps and sat her outside our door to walk in and she just stayed there and looked so pitiful...

...so we carried her in. She still hasn't really left the main living room area and actually just woke up from a pretty good nap. She must have been wiped out from her big adventure. She's still a little unsure of stuff, she won't really explore or even follow us if we leave the room, but I'm sure that will change soon enough. She even just went into her crate all on her own and layed down! I've never seen a dog do that. I'm trying not to think that all of this means she will be a perfect dog, but it sure is fun to hope that this means she'll never dare try to chew up a pair of my shoes :) Needless to say, she is exactly what we wanted and we are already totally in love! Here are only a few of the many pictures we've already taken:

Asleep on the ride home

Already giving Daddy kisses

Here are some where she finally started to play around with us. She barked a little too which was hilarious!

And when she just couldn't play anymore...

Stay tuned for more updates, there will be plenty. We'll let you know how tonight goes (and how much or how little sleep we all get) and we're headed to see Dr. Blake tomorrow too to make sure she's healthy.

Operation Maybel

As Justin has said, we will be going to get Maybel on Friday and I am like counting the minutes, I just can't wait! The week has gone by surprisingly quick though given that it has been yucky everyday with constant rain and cold. We're starting to wonder why we decided to get a dog when winter is just around the corner AND we live on the 2nd floor of our apartments. We're not really having second thoughts, we're just not too excited about some of the changes that we will have to make for our new little (or not so little) addition. But all of that being said, we are both committed and I think it will be fun (and maybe sometimes, not as fun) to see how we handle this new challenge as a couple. Warning: I'm entering reflection mode, continue reading with caution :) I know some of you may be thinking, "that's so silly, it's just a dog", but even though I love my husband more than anything, we don't always think or behave in the same way. And I definitely know there will be times when I want him to take her out or vice versa and the other one of us is not going to want to. I just think it will be interesting to see how we work together and adapt to this change. Anyway, I'm sure we'll have lots to blog about over the next few weeks so stay tuned to see how it all goes! I'm already planning on taking the camera with us to pick her up so I'm sure we'll get pictures up as soon as we can.

On another note, for those of you who don't know (and I don't know who all of you are that read this) Justin also has a blog with some friends that he lived with in college. Most are married now and spread out somewhat through the Southeast and such, but they use the blog to keep in touch (and talk about some pretty stupid stuff) but I still think it is a really cool idea. Well anyway, on the blog, one of them posted to all of those people out there that read the blog even though they don't contibute to it, but do because they are either married to one of the guys, like me or because they know the guys and just read it for entertainment (also, like me); he asked people to comment on his post to let them know that they read the blog. I talked to my friend Julia yesterday and she told me she was an avid reader of our blog and I didn't even know it. So...I would like to know who keeps up with the Lipscombs, so please comment and let me know you're there!

I know this is kind of a random post and I like to have a picture with posts b/c that's what I look for on other blogs, but I don't really have anything that goes with this one, sorry. Check back soon for Maybel pics!

Maybel's Homecoming

Friday, October 26th @ 5:30p.m. Katie and I will be traveling to Mt Juliet, TN. No, we're not going to see Charlie Daniels' house, we're going to get Maybel! We went shopping this weekend and picked up the crate and some other essentials for her. This dog is already costing too much money, but she'll be worth it. She will be 7 weeks old, here's what we think she'll look like, minus the provocative pose:

We have an appointment with our vet, Dr. Malone (a.k.a. My brother-in-law) on Saturday to go over everything and get her checked out.

One thing we have noticed though. Walking around Petsmart, EVERY company uses Labs on their advertising. I know they're the most popular dog by a long shot, we just never noticed it before. Yellow labs are like the Peyton Manning's of the dog world.

Speaking of football, the Titans sure did play an ugly game yesterday! The 4th quarter almost made me sick.

The Final Countdown!

That means the day is here. It's time to put Andrew in the Hot Seat, and win a Million dollars. I just had a conference call with someone from the show and all the lifelines. The rules are as follows:

- He will be on today anytime between 11-6:30 p.m. Central time. So I have to be at my phone during these times.
- We will get a call when Andrew gets into the Hot Seat, just to let us know.
- Once he uses the lifeline, we are supposed to let the phone ring three times, and answer saying "Hello" (seemed pretty obvious, but I guess it needed to be said)
- Meredith will come on and do her thing, then the 30 second clock starts as soon as Andrew starts talking. She told us to not have any chit-chat, as this limits your time to answer.
- Once we're done with the question or the 30 seconds runs out, the call will be disconnected from him, but someone else will come on the line (don't know why, maybe I'll get to listen to the rest of the show, hopefully)

Maybel countdown: 9 days!

I'll be updating as the day goes on. I'm gonna go stretch and go to the bathroom, cause I have to be at my desk for the rest of the day. That's gonna be tough!

UPDATE: 45 minutes into it, and I am really nervous. No calls from them yet to let me know he's in the seat. I can imagine how much Andrew is sweating. He has a bit of a problem. I have Google, Wikipedia and Yahoo answers pulled up. Anything else I should use?

UPDATE: @ 1:24 pm CST
I just broke away from my desk to use the bathroom, I had to go so bad. I didn't miss any calls though, so we're still good. 5 hours to go. I wish I could have a pizza delivered to my desk. I also just had my first food of the afternoon: brownies. I have my lunch in the fridge, but I can't go warm it up to eat it.

UPDATE: Justin @ 2:50 pm CST
I just got the call, Andrew just started the game. The next call will be from Meredith. This is INTENSE!

UPDATE: Justin @ 3:15 pm CST
I just got the call from "Vierra" as she called herself. The question was: A Canape, a finger food, is a french word that also means what? (something like that)
So I google it, it takes me to Wikipedia, but its the article about the finger food. I'm scanning the finger food article, because I'm thinking its gonna mention it. Then it's 10 seconds, 5 seconds. I say that I see see something about a Canopy, but no furniture. Then the line goes dead. As soon as the line goes dead, I click this, and it shows you that it's a sofa. DANGIT! So that was it. I didn't help him at all. I hope he didn't lose because of me, but that was the fastest 30 seconds of my life. I feel pretty awful about the whole thing. I really let him down. I hope he used the 50/50 or ask the audience, STUPID GOOGLE!

Movie: (Andrew finally got Best in Show)
Good dags. D'ya like dags?
Dags?
What?
Yeah, dags.
Oh, dogs. Sure, I like dags. I like caravans more.

Tomorrrow's the Big Day

I talked to our favorite contestant tonight, he's in good spirits. I found out that New Hampshire is the Granite state. So that is a good thing. I'll try to keep things up-to-date tomorrow while I'm at work.

Last night, we had a pumpkin carving party for our Life Group. Here are some of the entries:

Those trees were done free-hand, amazing work Brett!

Spring cleaning,.....in October

Last night, Katie and I got bit by the cleaning bug. Technically, we did more organizing than cleaning, but its all semantics. There a $5 word for ya.
Our storage closet was out of control, and now its a lot more manageable.

I did realize how much of a pack rat I am though, last night it finally hit me. It hit home when I found my "Most Improved Golfer" trophy from my high school golf team, dated 1997. 10 years! Why would I keep something that for 10 years? I mean, its still on my resume, so no one will be forgetting it any time soon.

I also found some vintage baseball cards, a few of Barry Bonds when he wasn't on steroids. I was a big Frank "Big Hurt" Thomas fan too because I had roughly 15 Thomas cards.

What are some things you still have, taking up space in your boxes and closets?

Maybel countdown: 11 days

Movie:
I don't think I could ever get used to being poked and prodded like that. I told my proctologist one time, "Why don't you take me out to dinner and a movie sometime?"

Yes, I remember you said that last year.

Puppies and Fall Break!!!!

We finally got an update on the puppies this week and they are all doing well and getting BIG! We are t-minus 2 weeks until we get to pick up Maybel! It actually moved up a day and we will now get her on Oct. 26th. We can't wait! Here are the pics that the breeder sent us. These are all six females from the litter. One of them is Maybel, we just don't know which one yet.

And...Fall Break is finally here, hence why I am making a post at 8:30 in the morning - it is wonderful! I have today, Monday, and Tuesday off from work and I am so excited! I'm looking forward to just being able to sleep in and actually get things done besides work things, like cleaning our apartment. My parents are also coming up for the weekend which will be nice too. I hope to get a lot of things done around the apartment so that we can post pics soon so that everyone can see what we've done to make it look more like a home. I'll let you know soon :)

One Small Step For Man....

Yesterday, a great thing happened to me. I will share it with you now.
Andrew Stacy, my dear friend and college house-mate, will be on "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" and he wants to be a millionaire. So, he has asked me to be one of his 5 lifelines. What an honor, right? Its either my golf knowledge, or my Google knowledge. I'm thinking I'll have Google and Wikipedia pulled up, should I get the call. I may be having some training in the next few days.

People, call me and ask me random questions, then hang up after 30 seconds. I won't take it personally.

But Andrew, PLEASE DON'T BE LIKE THIS GUY!!!

Movie quote: (for Conor)
How am I going to put this to you? Uh... look at it this way. No wolf, mmm, no wolf, ahh, no part. What do you think?

For everyone else:
That's one small step for man! One giant... I have a dream!

Big Weekend

Hey every one, how was your weekend? Good to hear. Ours was pretty good too. Here are a few bullet points:
- Our living room furniture is finally in
- My parents moved into their new house
- We got some patio furniture
- We have some curtains in our bedroom
- We're having a baby....just kidding (Kids are down the road a bit in our plans, but if God decides to give us one early, so be it)

We're a month away from having Maybel, so its time to start looking for dog stuff. Its still really exciting.

Funny thing at work today, one of my reps started this bet that he could eat 10 Quarter pound Double Stacks from Wendy's. So he went and almost made it thru all 10. He had to stop at 8.25. This got me to thinking about how much I have eaten in one sitting. Nothing "concrete" comes to mine (i.e. 26 pancakes) but this last man's weekend I ate so much monkey bread I expunged. Anyone have any gluttonous food stories? Leave them in the comments page.

UPDATE: Looking up the nutritional info for Wendy's (that's an oxymoron) it looks like he had around 3,000 calories, and close to 150 grams of fat for lunch.

Movie:
"MMMmmmm, that is a tasty burger!"
